The project
To address the above issues, WAPSCO has planned to build an open sea jetty and petroleum storage depot at a strategic location on the Atlantic Ocean coast some distance from the city but on a highway connecting Lagos to the rest of the country
The company aims to provide efficient supply infrastructure to oil importers/neighbouring refiners and will operate as an independent terminal operator charging fees as per the regulated tariffs set out by the government.
About Project
The project proposes to build a petroleum products terminal comprisinga loading and unloading jetty and a storagedepot
Jetty
- 38,000 DWT unloading jetty
- 5,000 DWT loading jetty
- Capacity to handle three 30,000 DWT vessels per week on average
- 600 meter long trestle into the Atlantic Ocean to receive import vessels and load out smaller coastal vessels
Depot
- 145,000 M3 capacity:
- 59,000 M3 of gasoline
- 43,000 M3 of kerosene
- 43,000 M3 of diesel
Project location
- The project is situated on the East Atlantic Coast of Lagos midway between two free zones planned by the government (OKLNG Free Trade Zone and the Lekki Free TradeZone)
- Site selection was made on the basis of a location study and depth survey of thearea
Project status
- 28 hectares of land, including 600 meters of Atlantic shoreline, has been acquired
- Relevant commercial and technical studies have been completed, Project Tender executed, awaiting contract award
- Approvals and notices of intention have been submitted to respective regulatory bodies
- Site has been cleared and deforested and is accessible all year-round
